Why Does It Hurt During Sex? 11 Signs Something’s Wrong!

Sex is natural and is something that our body demands and gives us pleasure. But if sex becomes pain and starts to hurt, you have reasons to worry about. Experiencing pain and discomfort during sex can give you sleepless nights. But before you seek help from friends, you should first observe about it like; is it a burning sensation? Where and how you feel the pain? Do you bleed during or after sex? Pay attention to your symptoms. Here are 11 signs that show that there is something wrong if it hurts during sex.

  1. Fishy odor

If you feel fishy odor with some burning sensation, this could be sign of some sexually transmitted infection or bacterial vaginosis.

  1. Painful position

It could be that during a certain position, your partner is thrusting inside you and you feel deep pain in every thrust. This could be because your partner poking your cervix. If this is your case, switch to some different comfortable angle or position.

  1. Burning and itchiness

During intercourse, the burning sensation with itchiness and cheese like discharge can be caused by yeast infection. This can cause swelling and pain in your vagina, making sex painful.

  1. Deep pain

If you feel deep pain in your lower abdomen and pelvis during intercourse, it could be because of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. It can cause irregular bleeding, fever or painful urination. It is caused by bacteria in your cervix and other parts of your reproductive organs.

If you feel pain during sex and all you wish to do is pee, you may have interstitial cystitis which is also called painful bladder syndrome. This is a chronic condition which causes painful pressure on your bladder.

  1. Dry vagina

If your vagina feels dry during intercourse, it could be due to menopause. If you are young and not going through this menopause stage, then it could be because of birth control pills or maybe you are not that into your partner.

  1. Sharp pain on outside

If you feel sharp pain on the outside of your vagina, you need to take a mirror and look at your vagina. It could be because of skin irritation, pimple or ingrown hair. and during sex, the pain may worsen up.

  1. Throbbing pain

A throbbing pain can be caused by endometriosis, a condition wherein the endometrium, or the lining of your uterus, is growing outside your uterus, on areas such as the ovaries, bowels, or pelvis. Aside from painful throbbing and cramping, your periods may also become heavier as you experience the same throbbing pain.

  1. Clamps shut

If your vagina clamps shut during intercourse, making sex painful, this could be caused by involuntary spasms of your pelvic floor muscles, shutting down your vagina for any penetration.  This condition is called vaginismus and is often psychological.

  1. Stabbing pain

Just touching your vagina causes a horrible stabbing pain. This is called vulvodynia in which the tissues around the entrance of your vagina become highly sensitive. Apart from sex, wearing tight pants, exercise or any contact with the outside of your vagina can be painful.

  1. Off-limit pain

You are not being able to have sex or insert anything in vagina because it hurts so badly. This could be because of your hymen being intact. It could be because you are virgin or there is a break in your hymen but still there is a band of membrane inside your vagina that is making it painful.
