Having an oily skin is like worst night dream. Your oily skin can hamper your appearance as it leads to zits and white heads and who likes oil on face!! We all wish to tackle that in-build oil factory, so that we do not end up with those oily looks. You try it all, washing your face every night, using those anti-oil moisturizers and everything. But do you know, what is the source of having this much of oil? Here are 15 weird things that make your skin oily you never knew!
- Over-cleansing your skin
Washing your skin too much will be drying out your skin, even if you use gentle cleanser and moisturizer. Every skin is different. Try not to wash your face more than twice.
- Harsh cleanser
Having an oily skin, makes you feel to use whatever cleanser will strip it away from your skin; be it astringents, scrubs or heavy duty creams. Initially it may work as it dry out the skin and makes your skin look oil free. But drying out your skin produces more oil to protect itself. Use more gentle face cleansers.
- Skipping moisturizer
Make sure you use a moisturizer; this prevents the skin from over-drying and creating more oil. If your skin is too oily, look for light weight moisturizers.
- Air conditioner
In summers, too much of AC can make you look oily. Stay away from artificial airs.
- Too much of heat in winter
In winters, we all look for the sources where we can find heat. Try not to overdo it as it sucks the moisture out of the air, which dries out your skin, resulting in more production of oil. Turn the heat off when you are sleeping, so that you do not wake up with an oily face.
- Touching your face too often
Your hands also have oils, so touching your face too much can lead to oiliness and breakouts. Avoid touching your face again and again.
- Having hair in your face
Your hair has a hidden oil factory, so your hair has natural oils which are fine for your hair. But having too much of hair in face can cause oiliness and breakouts as the oil from hair transfers to your face. Brush your hair away.
- Hormones
Your hormones keep on changing, being a girl. This fluctuation in hormones can result in an increased oil production in your body, from hair to hands to face.
- Dairy products
Dairy products contain natural hormones and have a high glycemic index, so eating or drinking them can cause clogged pores and shiny skin. If having some sort of dairy in your life is a must, try to stick with things like yogurt instead of plain milk–the yogurt has cultures and probiotics that won’t counteract the clogged pores, but offer other benefits to your body.
- Periods
Your menstrual cycle tends to jolt the production of sebum which is acne-causing oil. This leads to shiny forehead and extra pimples.
- Hot shower
Hot showers are never great for your skin or hair. Super steamy shower can make your face oilier. The heat dries out your skin which leads to more production of oil in your skin.
- Using cellphone
Using phone for a long time and pressing it against one spot, makes the area oily sweaty which leads to oil. Plus your cellphones contain germs and bacteria which can transfer to your skin if pressed for long on your skin. So use headphones or avoid long calls.
- Heavy foundation
Heavy, non-breathable foundations make your skin look oily as it restricts the pore on your skin to breathe. This causes sweat, oil and breakouts.
- Genetics
Sometimes, people are blessed with oily skins because of their genes. So if there is someone in your family with oily skin, then you are bound to have oil genes. You can use mattifying lotion.
- Stress
Stress increases the amount of androgen hormone in your body, which leads to more oil production. Try some yoga and meditation.
