Your vagina is a self-cleaning oven that is extremely sensitive. You need to be really careful about what you put near your vagina or in it. The items made for there too can be risky and can cause infection, foul odors, and extra discharge. You do not want it to be smelly and itchy or to deal with the painful infection that you end up visiting your gynecologist. Here are 10 weird things you did not realize harm your vagina.
- Tampons or pad
Tampons and pads are made to be worn in your vaginal area, but they can mess up with your vagina. It can change the pH of your vulva, which can lead to foul smell, extra discharge or infection. If you suspect any such thing happening down there, then it is better you switch to menstrual cups as they do not harm your pH level.
- Tattoos
Getting a tattoo near your vagina can mess up with your vagina. It can cause redness, irritation, inflammation and rashes. Even a temporary tattoo can cause damage.
- Toilet paper
Toilet paper can harm your vagina. Wiping too hard or too much can cause little cuts in your vaginal area which can invite bacteria and lead to infections. The chemicals in toilet paper can lead to yeast infection. Wiping back to front can cause poop to get close to your vagina leading to a UTI.
- Dehydration
Dehydration makes you feel tired, gives you headache, makes you feel sick and dries up your vagina. When your body is not hydrated, the skin outside your vagina area like labia gets dry and so does the inside. It can lead to pain, itchiness, burning and even yeast infection.
- Panty liners
Wearing panty liners too often can lead to painful infection. People may suggest you to wear it all time if you have a lot of discharge, but this will make the discharge worst. It does not let your vagina breathe which leads to infections.
- Using hair removal creams
Getting rid of hair down there using any method can irritate your vaginal area. If you are doing it, it is better you stay away from hair removal creams. The chemicals in this are really hard and can leave tiny cuts in your skin which can cause an infection.
- Alcohol
Alcohol dehydrates you which can make your vagina dry, and natural lubrication is very important especially when you have sex. Some even suggest that it also causes excess discharge.
- Bath bombs
The bath bombs can ruin your vagina. Sitting in warm water for long is not good for your vagina as it can cause UTIs, but bath bombs can be really harmful. They are perfumed and have dyes that can mess with your pH level and cause irritation and infection. Some of them have glitters too that are not good for your vagina.
- Smoking weed
Smoking weed might get you turned on, but it will dry your vagina. It can dry your mucus membranes.
- Smoking cigarette
Smoking can imbalance your vagina’s natural flora and this can lead to bacterial vaginosis. This can lead to funky odor, discharge, itchiness and more.
